Grenada’s Caribbean kitchen is renowned for the most delicious variety of sea food, spicy dishes and exotic fruits. There is a cocktail of French, Spanish, Indian and African cooking on offer, thereby making every dish tantalizing to your taste buds and an adventure!
Fine dining in Grenada
Fine dining with idyllic settings are available at several restaurants including Rhodes Restaurant which is located within the impressive Calabash Hotel at Prickly Bay, Lance Aux Epines. This is Gary Rhodes’s signature restaurant in the Caribbean, which was set up after spending several holidays on an island he holds close to his heart. La Luna Restaurant at La Luna Hotel, which offers romantic Italian dining, set below a lush emerald hillside, nudging onto an unspoilt natural beach – perfect for sunsets and star gazing. Oliver’s set within Spice Island Resort, an upmarket restaurant looking over lit gardens and the sea. The Beach House Restaurant, Point Salines is a well-run eatery, with a lovely traditional beachfront setting, serving good quality international cuisine. The above are examples taken from a much more extensive list of restaurants, all serving excellent food.
Coconut Beach Restaurant
A restaurant which epitomizes the scenario of Caribbean laid back dining bliss, is Coconut Beach Restaurant, Grand Anse Beach (north end). French Creole cuisine served under thatched cabanas, whilst your bare feet languish in the powder soft sand and the waves gently caress the beach, an evening with the luxury of a full moon shimmering across the water, is simply surreal.
Aquarium Restaurant
Another place with an excellent location is Aquarium Restaurant at Point Salines, especially day time, when eating and drinking can be consumed on the decking over the sand on the beach, bordered by an electric blue sea and views across to the capital of St Georges and the lush hills forming its backdrop. Sunday lunchtime is a great time to visit as they also have live music playing.
Dining further afield…
Whilst sightseeing on the island or when purely wishing to venture further afield, there are a number of places to stop and enjoy mouthwatering dishes. La Sagesse Nature Centre Restaurant (previously mentioned) sits on the edge of the beach, observing the natural curve of the ‘Robinson Crusoe style bay serving fresh fish caught that day by the fisherman. Le Phare Bleu – a converted lighthouse ship moored in Petite Calvigny Bay, serving good food and cocktails. Helvellyn House near Sauteurs, (also mentioned previously), serves buffet style local cuisine with breathtaking views up to the Grenadines. Almost Paradise Restaurant (& Cottages) also near Sauteurs is a small, idyllic place to stop, the views up to Carriacou and the Grenadines are uninterrupted and stunning, the food is fresh with an inventive, piquant menu designed daily and cooked by the husband and served by his wife, they make a great team – limited opening times.
Good quality food and reasonably priced…
For good value and nice food near and around Grand Anse and Lance Aux Epines there is, again, multi choice. Prickly Bay Boatyard/Marina serves amazing pizzas, which are made to order with whatever preferences required, several nights of the week also doing barbeque food and having live music at least once a week on a Friday.. De Big Fish at True Blue is also well recommended, pleasant setting on a jetty over the water, extensive variety, fresh food and again good value – the Deli Roasted Chicken is lovely, cooked fresh and so reasonably priced! True Blue Resort serves bar food and has a separate restaurant and is popular with the university students. A good evening out with an extensive choice is at the Marquis Complex, Grand Anse, with La Boulangerie serving Italian pasta and pizzas, Carib Sushi next door serving fresh sushi and sashimi, La Tortuga Italian Wine Bar next door to that, serving an extensive drinks menu and many salads, panini’s, brochettes etc with finally Le Chateau a few feet away, serving west Indian and international cuisine.
